I wandered through the streets following random people that looked interesting, snapping their photos. They have somewhere to be I suppose. I feel like an addict chasing ghost highs.

Wandering around Taipei trying to keep my head straight. I ducked in a convenience store to escape the heat and get a snack. Staring out window, a slice of reality simplified, bisected in front of me. It never stops moving.

I spent a lot of time roaming around on trains and buses, observing, wondering, thinking. The trains in Taiwan are virtually clinical compared to other places I've been, so clean, almost eerily quiet and sterile-feeling at times. I feel like a ghost, trying to determine if the isolation and desperation I see is my own projected or an objective reality.

I spent a lot of time roaming around on trains and buses, observing, wondering, thinking. The trains in Taiwan are virtually clinical compared to other places I've been, so clean, almost eerily quiet and sterile-feeling at times. I feel like a ghost, trying to determine if the isolation and desperation I see is my own projected or an objective reality.

From "climbing anxious spires", a series of environmental portraits about isolation, exploration, confusion and wonder. Here's one all the way from Hsinchu, Taiwan. I was visiting a friend's hometown and as the day was closing we headed to the beach after a long day of rambling around looking at temples, scenic spots and whatever people want to show people when they visit from across the world. I spent some time walking along the shore and watching the waves roll in, thinking about life across the strait...people in China, my time in China, living under a progressive democratic society versus the heavy hand of the CPC. The same water hits both sides, same air drifts. I felt calm and thankful for these experiences.

After some disruptive events and spinning in circles of frustration and sub-employment I bought a one-way ticket to Lima to try and force myself to figure something out. It didn't work but at least it functioned as some sort of pressure valve.
